(Go to the tutorial.)

Kazu Kibuishi (www.boltcity.com) has given another tutorial on how to use photoshop to prep an image for coloring. This tutorial is only part one, but it has a lot of promise to help cut down the time it takes to color images.

As some of you may know, I am an aspiring paper engineer (aka pop-up book nerd), so I was pretty excited when I discovered that Marvel had put out some pretty cool pop-up / comic books. My favourite one so far has been The Amazing Spider-Man Pop-Up, but there was an X-Men one released not too long ago. For Kirby fans and paper engineers, a pop-up version of the Fantastic Four will be available in May 2008. Sounds like it will be action-packed.

Kazu Kibuishi, one of the Flight authors, who draws Copper amongst other things, has a three part step-by-step process on how he draws, inks, and colors his art. It’s a great how-to.
(Actually it’s been around for awhile, but i figured it wouldn’t hurt to mention it a bit late.)

Here is nice little reference sheet for drawing facial expressions. You can also download a PDF to keep posted near your drawing table.
These are the little things I often need to reference. He also includes tips on what features to look for when evoking emotions. Nice!
Take a look.

The iComicsOnSale Dashboard widget for Macs is available for download now on the Comixology website. It lets you know which comic book titles are being released each week. Sorry PC users, I don’t know if this is available for you on another widget platform.
It works really well even though it is still in “beta.”
Here is a screenshot from my desktop.

New York Magazine is posting weekly excerpts from graphic novels. They actually have a comics page online. This week they preview Wonton Soup by James Stokoe, published by ONI Press. They call it an “Iron Chef Space trucker opera.”
Take a look.
